The 2nd Post-Primary Cork Chess Team Championship was organised at the Ballyphehane Community Centre, which was recently recognised as the first Green Community Centre in Cork County. Despite taking place close to the midterm break, the event attracted a record number of teams and players: 52 teams and a total of 216 players competed for this year’s trophy. The champions of the previous two years were among the participants; however, a new contender claimed the title with a perfect score.
The competition clearly demonstrated that chess is one of the most inclusive sports: age, gender, background, or even disability do not matter—everyone can compete on absolutely equal terms.

The overall winners of tournament were:
- St. Francis College A – 12 match and 21 game points (Declan Clancy, Hubert Machowski, Dylan Minihane, Joshua Walton – teacher: John Weldon)
- PBC Cork A – 10 match and 19 game points (Matthew O’Neill, Gabriel Amado, Liam O’Keeffe, Tom Philip – teacher: Liam Lynch)
- Coláiste An Spioraid Naoimh A – 10 match and 18.5 game points (Namo Siller Aziz, David O’Mahoney, Bart Ciernak, Hazim Ibrahim – teacher: Thomas Kiely)
- St. Francis College B – 10 match and 17.5 game points (Kajtek Machowski, Max Wong, Ben Walton, Ruairí O’Sullivan – teacher: John Weldon)
Congratulations to the winners, their schools and their teachers.
