The 1st Cork County Post-Primary Championship began with individual competitions held across five regions: North (centre in Mallow), East (centre in Carrigtwohill), South (centre in Riverstick), West (centre in Dunmanway), and Central (Cork). The Final was organised at the SMA Wilton Centre, where the top players from each region qualified to compete.

This year, the best teams from across all regions competed for the Cork County trophy. The participating schools were: Coláiste Treasa Kanturk (North), Scoil Mhuire Kanturk (North), Midleton CBS (East), Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin (South), Coláiste Spioraid Naoimh (Central), Coláiste Choilm (Central), Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Blarney (Central), Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG (Central), and Coláiste Chríost Rí (Central).
Each team consisted of four players, with an optional substitute. The tournament was organised in a five-round Swiss (Dutch) format, with pairings based on the teams’ accumulated points. A team received 2 points if it scored more points across the four boards than its opponent, 1 point if the match was drawn, and 0 points otherwise. In the event of tied team points, rankings were determined by the total number of individual board points scored throughout the tournament.
Although the individual competition had been dominated by students from Coláiste Treasa, Kanturk—making them the favourites for this event—new teams emerged and proved themselves strong contenders during the tournament.
The final standings after five rounds were as follows:
- PBC Cork 9/10 (Matthew O’Neill, Gabrial Amado, Tom Phillip, Ruan van Gendt 4.5/5 – teacher Liam Lynch)
- Coláiste Spioraid Naoimh 8/10 (Namo Siller-Aziz 4.5/5, Bart Ciernak, David O’Mahony 5/5, Ciarán Lear – teacher: Thomas Kiely)
